Timeline

MTN Nigeria required a comprehensive system to track and manage livestock assets across multiple regions. Geomatix designed and built a first-of-its-kind platform combining hardware integration, mobile applications, and centralized data management.
No visibility into livestock assets
Livestock management in Nigeria has traditionally relied on manual record-keeping and physical inspections. For large-scale operations, this approach is slow, error-prone, and vulnerable to fraud and theft.
MTN sought a technology solution that could uniquely identify individual animals, track their location and movement, and provide a centralized management dashboard. The system needed to work in rural areas with limited connectivity and integrate with existing operational workflows.
No off-the-shelf solution existed for the Nigerian context. It had to be built from the ground up.
Designing for real-world conditions
We started with extensive field research—understanding how livestock operations actually work on the ground, the connectivity constraints in rural areas, and the workflows of field agents and administrators.
We designed a system architecture that could function offline and sync when connectivity was available. The mobile application was built for low-end Android devices commonly used by field teams. The hardware integration was designed for durability in harsh conditions.
Development followed an iterative approach, with regular field testing and feedback from MTN's operational teams.
